- They say “huh” when you ask them a question. One of my favorite quotes I like to say is, “If you can huh you can hear” They are just stalling so they can think of what to say.
- They can’t look at you when they are talking. If you ask them a question and they are looking at the floor or all around, this could be a sign. It’s hard for some people to look you in the eye and lie.
- They seem nervous when you ask them a question.
- They are fidgety with their hands and fingers while answering questions. Pay attention to their hands. If they aren’t normally moving there hands and fingers when they talk this could be a sign.
- They over-explain things. When they start giving ten minutes explanations on subjects that require a 10-second answer they might be lying.
- They won’t give you a complete answer. If it seems like pieces are missing out of their story, that may be a clue.
- They try to deflect. I was a pro at this one growing up. To keep from lying, I would try to deflect the conversation to something else. It never worked.
- They get angry while answering questions. This one doesn’t mean they are lying…
