  1. Retain A Lawyer For Any Court Ordered Hearings- Do not go into any hearings without the proper representation. You will be at a disadvantage as soon as you walk through the door without one.
  2. Try Your Best Not To Fall Behind On Payments- Falling behind on child support payments can be detrimental. Not only will your outstanding balance continue to build, but you could also have your passport revoked until you are caught up on your payments.
  3. Keep All Communications Between You And The Other Parent Open- You may not have a good relationship with the other parent, but for the kid’s sake, keep open communication with them. You want to know immediately if something is going on with your kid.
  4. Do Not Ignore Any Court Or Child Support Papers Sent To You- Any material you receive from the court, make sure you open it and read. You do not want to miss a court date or information that could be beneficial.
  5. Do Not Let The Other Parent Ever Stress You Out- I do not care what is said, let it be water under the bridge. The only thing that matters is your children.
